Can anyone help me figure out what this is? The who, what, when, where, & value would be so appreciative. The reading on the barrel appears to say: I know it's a really old J. Stevens but that's about it of course anyone that can read could figure that out haha. Thanks anyone!

J. Stevens & Co. Chicopee Falls, MASS. PAT STRT 1884 (can't see the date very well)

This was just given to me as a gift and I probably won't sell this but the previous owner nor I know what it is. Could anyone shed some light as so what this is? There is only 1 marking I see on the entire thing and it appears to be a serial number. It looks an awful lot like a Stevens but I see no markings to indicate such. Thanks

    Who made it?
    What is it?
    Where was it made?
    When was it made?
    Value?

The patent date is most likely Sept 6, 1864.

Approximately 15,000 of these were made from 1864-1886 in both .22 and 30 caliber rimfire.

Value in the condition shown would probably be in $125-$150 range.

EDIT: I concur with Tipups that it is an "Old Model Pocket Pistol" and I am correcting my original reply.

Looks like the Old Model Pocket Pistol aka 1st model. Mfg 1864-1886. Rosewood grips, small barrel release stud and The barrel markings lead me in this opinion. Third model would have walnut grips and marked J Stevens A&T Co. post 1886. Value VG 125 EX 300

Concur with tipups. Interesting little guns. Would not reccomend shooting it with anything hotter than CB's.
