I would like some Winchester 70 experts to give me some advice on this 1954 .270. Stock has the correct metal Winchester butt plate.
Bolt is jeweled. It has a matte like finish on the barrel and receiver. Do you think these were special orders or added by a gunsmith? It is not a Super Grade.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Winchester 70 and 70a? I know it doesn't have the floorplate. Any other differences? I picked one up. It was made in 1976, I don't believe it's ever been fired. Absolutely pristine.. I want to scope it and use this fall if it's a decent gun... Thanks

I traded for an older model 70 and want to know if it is "pre 64". How do you tell the difference? serial #713xxx. 30-06. The man I got it from said he bought it in 1965.

It is not a pre-64 by my book, produced between 64 and 66, 64 and post 64 rifles began production with serial #'s above 570,000

I believe Pre 64 Model 70's ended with serial # 581471. 1964 guns started with the serial #700000. The G prefix was added in 1970.
