.223 Question

Like I said previously, I've been looking at the Remington 700 ADL, and trying to pick from the 8 offered calibers is driving me up the wall. Kid in a candy store, like I said I've determined I dont want to: A) Make the muley start looking for the deerfly that just stung it, or blow the animal (likewise my shooting shoulder) into mincemeat. That being so, I've eliminated the .22-250 and the .300 Win. Ultra Mag. And, based on the input from the worldly hunters on this board, I decided on either the .223 Rem, the 7mm Rem. Mag, or the .30-06.My question is twofold: Is there any real difference between the .223 Rem and any other generic .223 or 5.56mm? Would any other .223 or 5.56mm fire safely or even chamber at all in a firearm chambered specifically for .223 Remington? The other part: What sort of put down power does the .223 have? I understand it isn't a powerhouse round, but if it doesnt have the necessary oomph it isnt much good to me.I'd appreciate any advice you might be able to offer.
