Question about a 1902 Alaskan/Philippines. I currently have one in what would appear to be pristine condition. It has the correct Serial # range, brl length, RAC insp marks, pinched frame, lanyard, and excellent grips. Simply put, the gun appears to be in TOO good of condition, so I suspect a refinish somewhere. It has what appears to be a high factory blue and a nickle hammer. Do you have any idea of what the original finish may have been? Looks like it may have been painful to shoot with that huge trigger guard. Thanks.

A refinish without a doubt. Does it have the "US" on the right side of the frame above the front bow of the triggerguard? The original finish was typical Colt factory blue (NOT salt blue). There would certainly have not been any plating.

Thank you for your reply. It does confirm my suspicions for a refinish. Yes the US is on rt side just above the trigger bow, RAC insp marks left side above grip and left top of trigger guard. 1902 on frame between grip and trigger guard on rt side also ITT on top of grip on rt side. This old war horse still cycles well sa/da and has a lock up that the new guns wish they had. Again thanks.

The front cover of the 2000 Standard Cat. has a picture of a Frontier that would approximate the style finish.
