My recently purchased Ruger M77 .223 has a twist of 1:12. Does this fast twist require the use of a bullet of 60-70 gr as opposed to the commonly used 55 gr? If so,what is a good round to buy? Many thanks for the help!

Actually that is a slow twist.Designed for the bullets 52 gr and under but will shoot the 60s OK usually.GIs went to the 1/7 due to the M856 tracer which is LONG and needs to spin.[This message has been edited by cpermd (edited 11-19-2001).]

I also owned this gun and the only bullet that I found that would shoot great in it was the Hornady 40 gr. It looks like the Nosler Balistic Tip that is red insted of green. Try this load, 25.5 gr.of AA 2460 with the Hornady 40 gr. V-Max. In my gun this load shot an average of 1/2" to 3/4" at 100 yards consistantly!Mr. Tim
