24" or 26" Shotgun Barrel Best?

What length barrel would be best for quail, dove, and chuckar hunting a 24" or 26" in improved choke? I ask because I see the Browning turkey gun comes in 24" and my brother had a 26" that had a boo boo so he cut off a couple of inches and says it shoots better with the shorter barrel. Thanks.

iweb, I have one of those browning's however mine is the 26" and a 10 ga. I have read that longer than 26 can hurt your velocity,I know that they have made long range goose guns up to 32 and mabe even longer as far as what you ask for upland game a shorter gun is easyer to swing around and handle. also depending on the gun you get you can buy multiple barrels for it.Good luck Rich

The long barrel thing is a hold over from black powder days still stuck in some minds that it will shoot harder than short.I have heard unknowing hunters refering to the 32 as the only gun fit for goose hunting. All a matter of not accepting the truth. On the other hand the long barrel does make it easier to sustain a follow through because of the weight factor. If, as one previouse answer said, you have a choke in the barrel regardless of length it will work just fine.Faith in a hunting gun is paramount. If it works for you, use it.modoc
