question off the beaten path; air pistols

I know some people see air pistols as toys, still yet they can mame and kill. The question is someone gave me an old air pistol that the stock was obviously hand made, but still good craftsmanship. He told me it was a Ben Franklin air pistol. Was there such a varmit and does anyone know of a website to check it out or have a photo of one. there are no markings on the barrel or anywhere on the thing. It takes a 4.5mm pellet. If need be I can take photo if that would help.
