identify this firearm

I have an old .22 single shot rifle. It's unusual as the breech swings to the side. There is a plate on the left side that says "Buffalo Bill IXL"
under it it says "Hillsdon and Hillsdon"
under that is "Folkstone" The gun is nickel and a barrel of about 18 1/2"s and is quite small probably a chidren's gun. There was a shotgun maker I found in England called Hillsdon and Hillsdon could this be a comemerative? If pictures would help I can email a couple but I don't know how to post them here.

Looks like a Quackenbush rifle. I'm not sure why that tag is there.

EDIT: Please disregard my previous comments. I concur that it's a Quackenbush rifle. I was so fixated on the Hillsdon/ Folkestone nameplate that I should have looked at the gun more closely.

I agree with Knifecollector, that is absolutely a Quackenbush. The Hillsdon & Hillsdon plate looks like it has just been glued or soldered on. It has obviously been tinkered with some, per the wing nut on the takedown screw.

If made in England, it would have British proofmarks.

OK ! Everyone I agree. It's probably some young man who had this and somehow went to give it some undeserved glamour by attaching a plate off a fine shotgun or it's case. Up until this time I've never even heard of a Quackenbush. I have shown this to more than one person w/ expeience in firearms with no results. Thanks to everyone. I'll probably look gently to see how the plate is attached and perhaps get a take down screw but then again , there are initials scratched on the gun so some kid was proud enough of it to make sure no one took it so I might just leave it alone.

I've got a different take. Back in thr early 1900's, it was very common for local hardware/dept stores to contract w/gun Mfg's to make models of their guns w/the store brand name. Such contracts were even made to GIVE AWAY guns as freebies on X amount purchases.
I've got an old Stevens shotgun that was my Grandfathers w/a now defunct Kansas City hardware store brand name. Nowhere on the gun does it say Stevens. I's suggest researching to see if you can find some old time store w/the names on the gun.
