Is it possible to have an orginal unmolested goverment model C 97### with a nickel finish? It looks orginal but I can't find any info on a special presentation model.

Your's dates to 1917. The Blue Book notes that they were sold with a polished blue finish only.

Anything is possible, but, unless it will letter from Colt, it was probably done aftermarket.

You should post pics. I also have one like it. Mine is newer and has what I feel is factory nickle plate. I do know that a few were done.

Colt has nickel plated pistols for many years Colt single action army from much earlier then your 1917 pistol However I have no ref. books that show or talk about a model 1911 that early with factory Nickel finish We may be able to see some telltale signs to advise you of our opinion on if original finish with good quality close up pictures . However a letter from Colt is the only definitive answer to your question. A factory letter stating it was shipped in nickel would REALLY increase it's value. We would love to see the pictures.
