Trying to help out a friend who's looking for the date of manufacture of this revolver. S&W Model 60 serial# R22xxx. All I could get was this crappy cell phone photo, so not sure if it's good enough to figure value. Any help is appreciated!

Enemies of armed self-defense focus on the gun. They ignore the person protected with that gun.

First year of production, 1969. Best to find current FMV, is to check the actual selling prices on the net auctions. 30,000 were made during 69 according the the S & W book, so it would only be a big buck collector item if it was NIB with all paperwork and accessories, IMHO.

Ummm, actually, first year of production for the M60 was 1965; the first year that the R series was produced was 1969. So, if NIB it would bring a premium, but it would not bring big bucks.

A small quantity of M60's at that time had the name of the recipient engraved on the backstrap by the factory, as they wanted to make sure that the gun went to a member of the US military in SE Asia rather than get diverted to civilian sales; these will bring a premium.
