Paypal Restrictions on Gun Parts Transactions

edited October 2010 in Ask the Experts
I recently started using gunbroker as a seller. I opened a Paypal account and their policy prohibits "certain firearm parts and accessories" payment transfers. No other information is provided. Before I contact them asking for more information, I hope someone has more detailed information about this. Thanks!

    Directly from the PayPal website:

    Question :

What types of firearms related items does PayPal prohibit?

    Answer :

PayPal prohibits all account holders from buying or selling any type of firearm and certain firearm parts and ammunition.

Firearms - Include all rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they are intended for use in sporting, as collectibles, or as curio and relic firearms. These items are prohibited regardless of their present working order.

Firearm parts - Include, but are not limited to, receivers and frames, silencers, kits designed to convert a firearm to automatic firing capability, high capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers.

Ammunition - Includes ammunition with propellant, such as gunpowder or blank ammunition. Ammunition is defined as ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.

Stun guns - For U.S. residents, PayPal allows transactions for stun guns only if the transaction is permitted by law in both the buyer's and seller's jurisdictions. U.S. sellers must ensure that each transaction is legal in both locations before completing the sale. Transactions for stun guns involving account holders outside the U.S. are prohibited.

Other Related Items - PayPal allows transactions for paintball guns, blank guns, and air-soft guns as permitted by law in the applicable jurisdiction. These items must display all markings required by law, must not be convertible to shoot a lethal projectile, and must not include blank ammunition.

Just tell your buyers not to mention what the transaction is for and you can get around that policy. Its non of thier comunist buisness what you are dealing.

You shouldn't even be using them.

Sadly, only charlatans and thieves have attempted to replace them.

People can tell you not to use them. However for some people, that is the only way they will be able to buy from you, because they need to charge it. Just don't mention what the money is for. Other similiar services have proven to not be reliable from stories I have heard.

You really don't want to use Paypal.

The guys on this forum know how to use "discreet Paypal", but a lot of folks don't. When the screen comes up for the buyer to complete, & he sees that they are asking what the money is for, he may think that he is protecting himself by entering what the item really is; if he enters "gun part", you are in trouble. It is not worth the hassle; if someone is too scared to send you a check or MO, you don't want to deal with him.

Aside from the issue of "gun parts", there are other reasons not to do business with paypal.
They screwed me out of $40.00 one time, and I refuse to give them a second chance. I've never had a problem with postal money orders or bank checks, and often as not, with repeat customers or folks with substantial positive feedback history I accept personal checks.
To date I've had 246 transactions and only been burned once; a combination of Paypal and a dishonest dealer.
