I have quieried Smith & Wesson in regards to the MP15R in 5.45x39 and why they haven't produced a 5 round magazine for hunting purposes for this rifle. With the cost and lack of availability of 223/5.56mm ammo would this not be an ideal varmint round? Especially with Hornady's advent of the 5.45x39 60 grain Vmax round? I would think this would be a hot little seller if marketed as a varmint rifle in light of all the ammo cost increases and lack of availability for both plinking and varminting.

Are you sure you state requires 5rd only for hunting. I use to believe that was the case in WA but there is no mag limit. Plus many states that do have limits are not on varmint hunting.

If you want a 5rd mag take a standard mag and put a block in it to only hold 5rds.......

Not sure what you are talking about on cost and lack of .223. Last time I checked you can get 1000rd case of Federal for under $300 shipped. I know the 5.45x39 is cheeper but depending on how much you shoot will depend on if the cost of the upper will offset the cost of ammo.

If you're handy, a small screw through the front of the mag just deep enough to catch the follower will prevent loading more than 5 rounds. Not knowing how hard the bunny cop can legally try to load more, I can't guarantee this will pass inspection.
