1911 Colt question

After reading several post regarding the 1911, I myself have one or two.
I own a U.S. Goverment Colt 1911, serial number 281787. I purchased it about 20 years ago from a co-worker who was getting rid of his deceased father's firearms. He told me it was a bring back from the Philippines, where his father was a horse calvary soldier before WWII. I was of the opinion it was correct, but now not sure. The blueing is about 10% to 20% with the slide and frame wear looking the same. All the makings, proofmarks, inspection marks are correct I believe. The question is the slide. It has the Colt stallion between the pat. dates and Colt mfg. Is this correct for the serial number? If correct but knowing the sad state of finish, would it be worth $400.00? Thanks is advance.

I came across a 1911 colt that was curious, but had some problems. first the serial number puts it at 1913, but it has a 1911a1 slide. Was it normal for the arsenals to piece together 2 different guns like this. the guy who has it claims he bought it off of a vet who brought it home from ww2 in the early 50's. all the proofs are there for the earlier gun, but I don't think that the a1 slide belongs. The fram has 60% finish, the slide 80%. It looks like a parts gun to me, but I am no expert. Any help would be appreciated.

It's a 1918 production pistol. Location of the pony appears correct. if it's just holster type wear that has affected the finish rather then pitting? I would say that $400 was a fair price. Quality photos would be required for a more accurate assessment though.

you did good . Yes the finish is mostly gone but from what I see it is correct vintage 1911. I see what might be two barrels one with string around it.Am I correct? The one with the H P is correct how is the bore[?]. do not change or replace any parts some of the value is having ALL parts from same time frame. Most of the 1911 pistols were rebuilt between WW I and WW II just like on ANTIQUE ROADSHOW a piece of Furniture or firearm no matter what condition is worth more with original finish then one that is refinished or having someone try to improve it . Tell your girl friend that if you give it to her she can sell it to me[:)][^][}:)]. Then she can give you your $4000.00 back and have enough left over to take the two of you to a VERY nice restaurant and buy her a Dozen long stem Roses[:D]

The orginial barrel is a sewer pipe. I shoot this 1911 as I do all my firearms. So, I brought a replacement barrel for shooting knowing that I need to keep the orginial barrel for the day my bride sells off my collection, when I'm gone I hope. So, I will put this piece in the collection book with a sell price of "north of $400.00". As always, thanks.

First impression (the gun) Zowie!! All original with an honest finish! Neat!

Second impression (the bride) Watch out..value questions mean SELL!

    Good luck! Joe
