I need some advise! I have been looking at some semi auto's in 45acp with 5" barrel and can't decide between the springfield 1911/A1 or colt 1991? I prefer stainless steel.

What is the difference between the 1991 and the 1911? I see colt makes both is one a newer version? I like the commander.

Go New Colt. The essential difference between the 1911-A1 and 1991-A1 is the addition of a firing pin safety to the newer model. There is a plunger and spring arrangement in the slide that blocks the forward movement of the firing pin until the trigger is deliberately pulled. When the trigger is pulled an attached lever pushes the plunger up into the body of the slide allowing the firing pin to pass. When the trigger is released the spring forces the plunger back to its original position blocking the firing pin. I have acquired both the full sized model in blue and the Commander sized model in stainless, and am very satisified with both.
