How can I tell if my(Bulgarian) slr-95 ak-47 is pre-ban?

    Most people when referring to pre-ban are referring to the original '89 ban ... Guns built/imported prior to that ban, back when folding stocks were legal, as well as bayonets, threaded muzzels ... but there is also the 97 "Clinton Exucitive Order Ban" which halted the importation of the AK type weapons, Styer USR, and several others. Manufacturs had skirted the "Sporting Use" issue and got BTAF approval for a short time ... which is why we now have a flood of American AK's with imported parts such as the SAR1, 2, and 3 which are so popular.The year of your peticular design & designation was 95, hence they are all post 89 ban, but pre 97 ban ... got it?To further confuse you, you can now purchase enough US made parts to return it to the "Original" pistol grip design ... but still no threaded barrel, flash hider, bayonet/lug or folding stock (unless made to stay open permently.

    Kimberkid is correct. You SLR-95 is definitely post-ban. The earlier Bulgarian SA-93 started being imported in 1994. The SLR-95 began its importation in early 1997. The first SLR-95 I saw was at the Shot Show in January of 1997. There were no pre-ban Romanian, Bulgarian, or Russian AK's. All of those manufacturers didn't start exportation to the US until the 1990's.
