date of manufacture of S&W 586

My search for a 357 is over, I just picked up a S&W model 586. It's in great shape, but I'm not sure when it was made. If any of you have a book with the dates out there, could you help please me out? The serial number is 458XX. Thanks for the help.

    I believe you have left off some letters from the serial number. There should be a prefix of something like AAD, ABL or BBT. There should be only three letters and four digits following. Without the correct sn I can at least give some info. The 586 was introduced in 1981, designation was changed to 586-1 in 1986, 586-2 in 1987, 586-M in 1987, 586-3 in 1988 and 586-4 in 1994.
