Spencer Shotgun

I recently acquired a Spencer Gun Co. 12ga Single shot shotgun. I have searched everywhere and can't seem to find any information. It has no markings on the gun other than the company name and it says full choke on top of the barrel. It has a steel barrel and it is 30 inches. I would also like to know about how much it is worth. If someone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hello,

    Can anyone tell me anything about a Spencer Shotgun with a 1896 Date on it? It is a single shot 12 gauge, not the repeater that you normally see for sale.

    I haven't been able to find out anything about it or it's value. Any help would be much appreciated.

    I recently saw a converted spencer shotgun for sale. It was a converted carbine to 16 ga. Can anyone tell me about the ammo for one of these?

    I suspect that what it says on the shotgun is Spencer Gun Company. That was a trade name used by the H & D Folsom Arms Company.Before you fire the shotgun, have it checked out by a competent gunsmith who knows his/her cookies with Damascus barreled shotguns and has the FIBER OPTIC equipment necessary to imspect the inside of the barrels for ANY evidence of delimination.Secondly, I don't care who tells you that you can use "low-brass" shotgun shells in a Damascus barreled shotgun - they are WRONG. This is the voice of experience speaking. The pressure curve for blackpowder shotshells and modern smokeless powder is entirely different. No - the gun will not blow up in your face, but modern smokeless powder shotshells will shake it apart.Since you are probably not equipped to load black powder shotshells as I am, I would suggest that you buy shotshells loaded with Clean Shot (a black powder substitute) from L. A. Outdoors in Enterprise, Alabama. They refer to them as "Cowboy Action Load". They can be reached at (334) 347 - 6909.Generally they are pretty good old guns, but you must understand and RESPECT their limitations.

    Pat, you mention damascus barrell, not barrels, is this a single barrell, or a slide action gun?
