I picked up a 22 mag auto mag today with a six inch barrel. How are they? How do they shoot? Whats the average going price on one? Thankyou

Hey, good deal! I have a 4 inch and my dad has a 6 inch and they are the funnest gun to shoot. My dad's was NIB and shot great. I got mine used and it looked like someone reworked some of the parts,(I think I know what they were attempting but don't know why) but I replaced the parts and I havn't had any problems. Get a couple extra clips, I heard Galena Ind. has closed the doors. I paid $225.00 for mine (and spent $30 on parts). I have seen the 6 inch go for betwen $350 and $500. You can get clips at the gun show for 20-30 dollars and Numerich carries parts for them. I wish they would make an economical .22 magnum cartridge, all I can get are hollowpoints $5 at the gunshow $8 at the dealer. But they are alot of fun, I wish I could shoot mine everyday. Good Luck!

Thrilling gun, 6" went for $265 in '88; 4" about $40 less. VERY accurate, mild recoil, newer mags only hold 9 and have orange followeer. Nowadays, probably around $300-?

Just make sure you keep it clean. A buddy of mine acquired a 6" model from an elderly lady in trade for watching her property for a couple months. I took him out to the range and it jammed after just a few rounds. We tried it again with a different magazine and it happened again. After cleaning it thoroughly, it shot just fine.

DaRoosta is right, keep it clean. I watched a kid at the range struggling with a brand new one of those a few years ago. He was getting jams every few shots until the rangemaster loaned him his can of gunscrubber. After that it was working much better, but still had a jam now and then. A more thorough cleaning and some lube on the rails might have made it work even better. I still don't think I would depend on one for serious purposes though.

I told my buddy the same thing kaboom stated. The AMT was fun to shoot, but I wouldn't depend on it. He was thinking about carrying it with him on the lady's property he was watching. I told him he'd better rethink that scenario. He asked her for a lever action 30-30 she had and that's what he ended up with instead of the AMT. A couple weeks later, I sold him a 9mm Beretta 92FS with some extra mags, Dillon holster, etc. Nothing to worry about now.

You guy's are right. I believe it's called gas assisted blowback (probably wrong but close) and if you look in the chamber there are about 6 holes probably 1/16 in diameter and 1/32 deep. I guess the theory is that as the shell is being ejected the holes fill up with gas and compress the shell and makes it easier to eject (I'm assuming, I'm not a gunsmith). When the holes fill up with gunk you lose the Gas assist (a gentleman from Galena told me). The best way to clean them is with a bent dental pick. I do this everytime I clean mine and I've had no problems. I imagine blowing it out with gunscrubber would help, but you really have to dig the stuff out.
