Hello, I asked the winchester Historian thisquestion last year. I ask What he could tell meabout this rifle? He had no information. It hasa short barrel and looks like a youth gun. ButI don't think that's what Winchester had in mind. So if you have any info. please send it along. The barrel is marked like the subject. Thanks Vince

I have one, short 20" barrel in either stainless or blued, was available in several calibers, I have talked to Glenn about these, it was last available in '97 from production in Dec of '96, They produced 75 30'06, 50 7mm Mag, and 50 .308 winchester, The made another wersion that was similar but was over shadowed by the featherweight/lightweight lines. The barrel should have winchester markings on the left side and Lightweight stamped on the right side, produced in New Haven, but yet to be produced in The Ogden plant. Is yours the Walnut/blue or Synthetic/stainless? What caliber? Do you want to sell it? If so I am interested.'

I did some digging today, and also found out Winchester produced a 19" barreled version but it wasn't a big seller, which is what your's probally is, Wood/Blue combo, barrel will measure roughly 20" - 21" from reciever to muzzle. Does it have a floorplate or blind magazine?

Yours was produced in or around '84 or '85, The rifles were competeing againist the 22" barreled Lightweights of that era, The Lightweights came in at around 6 1/8 pounds and the carbine was actually heavier, 7-7 1/2 pounds, to offset recoil. The Lightweights had a hollowed out butt and more trim forend, which put them a pound under the Carbine, the later special ordered carbines were outfitted with Featherweight synthetic stocks that made them weigh in around 5 3/4 to 6 pounds depending on caliber. I love my carbines from the later yrs, I also have a '86 model '06 just like yours, and it is quite a shooter to have a barrel 3"s shorter than a standard production Model 70. My offer still stands if you ever decide to sell.

I am not a dealer, I just have a immense love for model 70's, but the offer still stands, I shoot Horandy light magnums out of mine with great accuracy, give them a try first you might be surprised. http://www.geocities.com/orphanedcowboy/mdl70carbine.jpg
