Gunshow deal or raw deal

I went to gun show this weekend at Market Hall here in Dallas, I bought a Marlin 444ss for $325, I thought I done fair, but I have a wise cracking unemployed relative who thinks I got taken. The gun is in great shape, 2 little spots on fore end, I would rate it at 90%-95%, but I am happy, bought it for hogs, I needed the open sights, have them big piggies coming after dark to my feeder, two over 400 lbs, the rest in the 150-200 lb range, hope it works on them, any one for hog hunting?

I'd say that you paid an honest price for it, based on the condition that you mention. The 444 ought to kill any hog it encounters, along with most anything else you are likely to be shooting at in East TX (within its range). It sounds like the rifle is in excellent shape, and you're happy with your purchase. What more could you ask for?

I have a couple of Marlins of smaller caliber and love them. At $325. you got a fair deal. Not a steal, but a good price. I can't help but wondering why you even listen to your wise cracking unemployed relative about your financial dealings! Stay clear of those 400 pounders and maybe some of your kin!

I was at a gun show in Eastern Oregon and they were priced $375 to $395. I sent mine into Marlin and had a Ballard cut rifling barrel installed. The micro groove barrel didn't like cast bullets. Total cost was $71.95 and they replaced magazine tube and forearm at no charge. Contact customer service at Marlin and ask for Tim. Mine shoots very well, I'm shooting a 300 gr cast bullet with a gas check. Enjoy!!!

One thing I've learned about wisecracking unemployed relatives is that anything that they would like but cannot afford is overpriced.

One thing I've learned about wisecracking unemployed relatives is that anything that they would like but cannot afford is overpriced. Now aint that the truth!! Cars, trucks, guns, tools, whatever, if you have it they always know about something better you could have bought for less money if you were as smart as they are. Funny thing though, they usually don't have that "better" thing themselves, they just "heard about it" from someone else.

You did fair to a little better than fair. Most I've seen go for around $375. I was at Market Hall last weekend too. Didn't buy anything. Rats!
