.22 revolver recomendations

I have started looking into getting a .22 revolver. I have found the S&W 317 Kit gun, Taurus 94, and Ruger Bearcats to be what I am looking at. Are there any other low price .22 revolvers out there at a relatively low price. Single or double action, atleast a 3" barel. Use for plinking and becoming more familiar with hand guns. (Decided against the semi-auto, if you remember me from other posts). I want something that has a little mit more discipline and deliberance! Thanks.

You might look for an older S&W model 34 or 43. They are J-frame .22s (one is the lightweight aluminum frame, the other steel). I would recommend either of these or the Ruger Bearcat or Single Six. In my experiences, Taurus revolvers are a significant step below either the S&W or Ruger.There is no need to buy new and pay a premium - the .22LR revolvers will last several lifetimes with decent care. Buy used and save enough to shoot .22s for a few years!

I've got a Ruger SP-101 six shooter in .22- can't complain.Smith and Wesson (and I think Taurus too) make a couple models that take upto 10 rounds.As the last guy said, they last a long time. The pressure and wear is not a big factor in .22's. 22 LR does seem quite a bit sootier than bigger calibers, but who cares. Good cheap shooting for 1000's of rounds.

I've got a Smith K-17 Masterpiece, bought it used....about as good as they come. Also have a Dan Wesson stainless, it's nice but Smith has better action and trigger. If I was buying new, I'd go with the Smith 10 shot revolver in stainless. Don't know much about Colts, but the Diamond backs were suppose to be pretty nice.

I have an early S&W M317 and it is one of my favorite handguns. I love the quality and the lightweight. The M317 Kit Gun will have adjustable sights and a longer barrel. It will be an improvement over my revolver. It is so much better than the Taurus that there is no comparison. (I bought a M94 years before Smith brought out 8-shot J-frames, and it had a crooked front sight. I corrected it and find it an acceptable revolver, but not of very high quality. I think current Taurus revolvers are better.) The Bearcat is so different from the M317 that I do not see how you can compare the two. You either want a heavier 6-shot slower-to-load single action with fixed sights, or you want a lighter 8-shot faster-to-load double action with adjustable sights.

I bought a used Ruger Single Six on G/B over a year ago and it is a great gun. It is accurate and easy to operate and clean. Go with a Ruger, you won't be sorry.

I bought a Ruger Single Six a couple years ago to kick around the woods with. Came with a .22MAG cylinder too. It's strong as a bank vault and pretty accurate to boot. I'll bet my Grandkids are shooting this thing into the next millenium. Yea, It's slower to load than a DA revolver, but I don't mind. And I'm not worried that a beginner might drop it and spring the frame. You could use the thing for a hammer and not hurt it.

Can't disagree with anything said. I have or had all those mentioned except Taurus. I would add another that I have respect for which is the H&R 999. Their flagship .22 revolver, 9 shot, top break. Don't think they are still being made. Should be able to get a real nice one used for about $150. Hope this helps.

I just bought a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe6" Great Shooter for a reasonable price.Alot less than a Bearcat for sureNot real easy to find though.
