Was visiting with my local dealer as to a couple pistols that I'm interested in.He has checked with a number of his usual distributors as to Browning Hi-Power availability and is being told that none are in stock and looks like there will be no more shipped.Seems like we went through the same thing about a year ago.Anybody else know anything about this?SUPPORT THE NRA

Can't speak for other areas, but when Maryland started that S----A---D shell casing law up, Browning refused to ship any more new iron to our glorious state. If you're here in this area, that could be the reason. I'll never buy any new Browning after they developed that attitude, although they are good guns.

I was told Browning ceased handgun imports due to the law suits against firearm manufacturers some time ago, but they were starting to bring High Powers back in again, some dealers are having no problems getting the "Practical's" in.....maybe some distributors have better access or inventories than others?

Ahhhh, but FN has a replacement for the original HiPower. A DA/SA version. Somewhat changed lines, 9mm only, cheap looking plastic grips, a black finish (why polish and blue a gun when you can save money?), and a hammer that doesn't pinch large hands. It is being marketed for the LEOs, but being 9mm only, having mags that don't interchange with the old HiPower mags, and since it is a heavy pistol, I expect it to get all the attention of the Colt 2000. A very stupid move by FN, IMHO.

I think this FN DA/SA is a left-over design from the service pistol trials. I talked to a guy at FN about the lack of high capacity magazines. He said it was developed well before the magazine limit law and no one gave any thought to that issue. I have seen and handled one at the SHOT Show, and liked the looks and feel of it. I have been trying to get one, but cannot. I will be interested to see if any existing high capacity magazines can be adapted to it. I cannot see dropping the High Power for good, but Browning also dropped the Auto 5, so who knows? The FN DA/SA pistol was catalogued once before by Browning, but it was never imported. The paint finish is common for military weapons these days. Most CZ75 pistols are painted.
