I bought a Leupold vari ll 3-9x40 in silver for $230 for my new .260 stainless stalker.Apparently these are being discontinued. Although it's not the vari lll, how did I do quality and price wise?

A good price comparison can be had at www.bearbasin.com

I did beat Bearbasin's price. I assume that this has to be a pretty good scope even if it's not Leupold's top of the line.

If I recall correctly, remember this, only the Vari X III carries the lifetime warranty from one owner to another, and that is why you would want to buy the 'top of the line', Leupold, although the LPS is now the 'top' dog.

If you did better than Bear Basin you did fine. The Vari X II is a good scope. It lacks some desireable features of the III, but is basically fine optics which are fully single coated rather than multi-coated. It should serve you well. Next time save your nickles and go for a fully multi-coated scope. You will get about 10% more transmitted light, which can sure help at the ends of the day and on overcast rainy days.

Leupold is discontinuing the Vari -X II line from what I understand. FOr what reason I dont know. I think we'll see some drop in prices shortly as they are closed out.

I won a 3-9X40 VariX II at a Friends of NRA dinner with a neat NRA logo on the HZ screw cap. Paid $35 for the dinner. Good light transmission, excellent return to zero, almost enough movement vertically to shoot a mile with my .300Win Mag.!

To Robsgun, You are WRONG I have mailed in 3 lup scopes x2 they were repaired at no cost to me and no questions and got them back with in 2 weeks, they are as good a scope as any made in america. Try to get a Nicon scope repaired.
