A dealer has a gun I very much want to buy. Its a Ithaca 37 20 gauge made in 52, it has a plain barrel super nice checkerd wood and is in excellent original condition. His bottom dollar price is $325. I think that is a little high but would like opinions on this.thanks

    I`m as cheap as you`ll find..ask anybody here that knows me,but for a 37 in 20 Guage,in the condition you discribe,I don`t think it`s way to high,maybe a little high.I would be wanting that gun too..especialy if it`s in modified choke..218

It is high, especially since it hasn't the VR barrel but the early guns have machined, not investment cast parts and the 20ga commands a price premium. I overpaid for my 1975-12ga VR deluxe but I love it.After handling the 20ga up at the Ithaca Co a few weeks ago, I think a Mod 37-20 ga is in my future.Try to * a little on the price because of the 2-3/4 chamber and the plain barrel but buy it.

I just paid $325 for a 16ga VR 26" Imp. Cyl. I love it and it is in excellent, 98% condition. I would have paid a lot more. Go for the 20ga. That's what I want next.
Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!

Sometimes things seem high..and maybe they are a little high, but you just don`t see them anywhere. Also I look at it this way..if it was mine, would I take $325. for it?I doubt it!!.218

    Hey clhess,this reminds me of somethin` that tore me up:There I was at my table at a show,doin` a little sellin`,a little buyin`,a little tradin`.This guy comes up holdin` a 16 Guage Deer Slayer,in fine shape,lookin` good.He is lookin for a deer rifle,so I show him a couple,tell him I`d be willin` to do a trade.He gets a little exited and tells his friend to open the other case,I can`t remember what was in it.I say what about that one..he says"oh no,I just give a hunderd-n-fifty fer this`n,out in the parkin` lot"..218

I have a 1959 20ga. in real nice shape in my shop for 320.00 and one made in 1965 for the same price. They made high quality guns then. For a while they went downhill but are biulding quality guns once again. I live a little ways from Ithaca Gun Co. 20's are a little harder to come by than 12s there fore they are selling for more.

The prices on Ithaca's as well as others are pretty much dictated by region. Our shop is here in NY not too far from Ithaca, NY and I get a premium for the 37's and other models. $300-$325 is a fair price maybe a tad high. People in these areas know the quality of these guns and dont mind paying for them.

Picked up a 16ga model 37 in 90-95% or better condition that was made in 1952 for $150 at a local gun show. There was another one from a local shop in 12ga that the asking price was $225. Not sure on the value of these however for the money I just had to have it. Hope this helps
