Saiga legality in CA

I'd like to buy one, but have been told two different things regarding the legality of the Saiga rifle in CA. A year or so ago, a local So. Cal. chain called Turner's regularly had these in stock for sale. I called recently and the guy said that they haven't been selling them because they are harder to get, implying that they would sell them if they could get them. I called CDNN investments in TX yesterday and tried to order one that they have advertised for $179. He flatly, and rudely, refused to take my order saying that no semi-auto rifles or shotguns can be sent into CA. Who is correct here?

It's the rifle. Not all semi's are banned in CA, yet. You can still buy mini-14's, 30's and M1 carbines now. The mag for the Saiga "will not" take conventional AK clips. The Saiga mag is detachable, but limited to 10 rounds. A five-rounder comes stock with the gun. This was the reason they were legal for sale post '00, which is when I remember seeing them on ad at Turner's. Saxon, you made reference to AG's website. Sorry, but I don't know what you are referring to. Thanks for the reply.

They don't make a magazine over 10 rounds for the Saiga, but you can modify another magazine that will fit and function in the Saiga. That may be why they won't ship that rifle to you out there in CA. I've got some 30rd mags for the Saiga in 7.62x39. They run $29.95. LRARMSX@HOME.COM

if it's legal in CA it should be listed on: http://www.caag.state.ca.us//firearms/certlist.htm If it's not there, it means it's illegal.I'm also happened to live in the politically correct state, i feel for you.

Actually you want to go here, you will need to read it very closely and remember that it may be interpreted differently by others. If your gun isn't officially banned here it may be illegal by "Generic Characteristics". Joe http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/awguide/index.html

Eli, the site you are referring is for pistols only, the infamous "approved list." Angry, you are absolutely correct. I looked through info. on the Attorney General's site and found that the Saiga is specifically listed by name under the generic AK category. Sucks. I hate my state!

I live in the commie state of Mass- and took at look at your list.We have a better selection of rifles available (can still get SAR-1's, G-3 clones, pre-ban high cap mags, etc...) BUT... handgun laws in Mass are horrible, ONLY S&W handguns can be sold new, and just in the last month SIG got put back on our list of "safe" handguns. That's it, unless you find a good used one. No new Ruger, Colt, Kimber, Beretta, etc...

Ed,That really sucks about your handgun laws, are they strict about what is brought in from other states? Here it seems that if a new gun that isn't on the list is brought in used, it can be bought legally, but I'm not 100% sure on that and either is anyone else I've talked to for that matter.Joe
