Experience with Jennings 9?

Hi, my dad bought me a Jennings 9 for Christmas. I plan to use it for security at home and camping (dont go to the range and rarely hunt anymore). I realize it isn't top-o-dee-line, but it was a gift and I was just curious to hear some opinions/experiences with it. Thanks for any response!

When I took the CHL instructor course from the Texas DPS several years ago, the Jennings/Bryco 9mm was the ONLY pistol that the DPS instructor named by make and model and said it would NOT be fired on their range. It seems that two such pistols in an earlier class self-destructed when fired. No offense.

Are Jennings, Bryco, etc. the guns that are made of the same stuff Hot Wheels cars are made of?

You would be better served with a brick, baseball bat, knife, etc. I would recommed sell it and get another pistol or shotgun, however since the said arm is a jennings I say fill the barrel with lead and use it as a trotline weight. Dont sell it as some unfortunate soul might try to defend himself with it! Get yourself a quality pistol or shotgun for the home defence part. If money is a thing then I would suggest a good used shotgun such as a Rem 870 or Mossberg 500.

If someone tries to break in on you give it to him, then shoot him with something else.Jennins rates right up there with a lorcin.

I can't comment on the 9mm, having never owned one, but came into possession of a Jennings J-22. (.22 LR Cal) I've fired about 200 rounds, just plinking. No jams, no failure to fire. Only repair, a magazine release spring. Was reading in Guns and Ammo a comparison of the .25ACP and the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. A Beretta .25 was used and a Jennings J-22. Both functioned reliably without jams or failure to fire.

I think if you got a Cigarette Lighter Conversion kit, you might be able to use it safely ... but we all know what cigarettes will do to you!Of course this is providing someone doesn't assume its a real gun and shoot first Seriously though, if you need a weapon for home defence, get a pump shot gun (nothing to scare an intruder like hearing a shotgun action racked) ... they are inexpensive & practical ... if you want a hand gun, look for a PA-63, Makarov, CZ 52 or 70 ... all good & inexpensive. Bryco, Jennings, Raven all junk, made as cheaply as possible ... its amazing that some have passed the California restrictions & drop tests.

Hoodilydoo,First off let me say ignore all of the bad jokes about your jennings. Take it to the range and try it. See if it's reliable and functions well. If it jams often or is extremely inaccurate then you won't want to use it for self defense. A lot of the Jennings weapons are worthless, but you might have one that works well, you never know till you try. I would take the above advice and recommend a shotgun over a handgun for home defense. I think Norinco makes some pretty slick pump action shotguns for around 179.

Does USA Mags make magazines for Jennings, Bryco, Lorcin, Davis, etc. guns?
