Dear 218 Bee, Why would you buy a 30/30 when the .308 is made for this type of rifle? I agree the 30/30 is great for the lever/tube feeding rifle, but the .308 is superior bullistics in comparison. Best, Robert

Robert,I bought one in 308 several days prior,so I suppose my answer is,as they say "because it was there"..and of course the price was right..$160. for the .308,and $165.for the 30-30.It is an addiction ,I have a lot of rifles, and just because one round is better than the other, does not mean that I don`t want the other..218

Yes,I bought a Rem.788 30/30.You can shoot pointed bullets in the bolt action and cannot in the lever action unless you want to only load two.

Dear 218 Beekeep and ATF, Any reason is Ok by me. Your prices for the 788s are great. How do they shoot? Mine has a 20" fairly heavy barrel. How do they compare to the Remington 700/Model 7? I finally found a black synthetic stock for mine, so I am set to go here in the rainy, cold Pacific Northwest. Best, Robert

They did make a 788 in 44Mag. I owned one several years ago , but got stupid and sold it. Your prices are fantastic,in my area 788s are priced $275 to $325.

Varmit Hunter:If I can ever get the BeeKeep"er" to do the Ocala show and bring the 788's with him, I'll get them both, assuming we can come to terms on price. I am going to print out a copy of this to remind him about his $160 & $165 deals. I don't mind him making a nice profit, just not all of it from you and me.I will send you the .308 - I have an FN-49 in .308 and I don't need anything else in .308. Yes - they did make a few, and yes I have one. I don't have anything in 30/30 - hence the NEED for one.I will try to push the "Submit" button before Captain Kirk has Scotty beam a lock on this topic.
