Thinking of purchasing a SigPro in .40cal. Would like to know good or bad input before I purchase. Price is very fair. Never had any experience with these new models. Thanks in advance for your time.

My opinion...the industry mocked Glock from the start, but every maker jumped into the polymer frame business to compete. If I wanted a polymer frame semi-auto, I would buy the one everybody else copied.

I was also interested in getting a Sig Pro in .40. I rented one at my local range and boy am I glad I did. I found the the recoil to be more than I wanted. I beleive this is due to the polymer frame as well as the slightly shorter barrel. Look at the Sig 226 in .40. Pricey, but I love my 9mm 226.-Marcus

I have actually owned one for a "VERY" short time a few years back. Bought the gun without test firing it, took it to the range the day after and the damn magazine catch assembly well, diassembled itself within the first 50 rounds. Called Sig and was told by their armorer(amazingly) that this is a common occurence in these pistols...WTF? Two days later, I traded it in for a used Glock 19 w/ high caps and have since put about 5K rds on it without a hitch. My opinion? The barrel is too high above the polymer frame which in combination causes the intolerable high recoil. Save your money and buy a steel framed SIG.-smooth

ref44 is correct; you can't go wrong with a Glock. It is the most efficient fighting handgun ever made, and that includes the Colt 1911. Gravedigger talks about recoil from the Sig--it is amazing how Glocks dampen recoil. Do yourself a favor and buy a Glock.

This is from someone that works for sig. If you're going to buy a sig, don't buy a sig pro. the 229 or 226 are the best and most reliable around.

AND ONE MORE THING, IF YOU WANT THE POLYMER GUN THAT WAS COPIED, THEN YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY TALKING ABOUT THE HK'S. THEY WERE PRODUCING THE POLYMER FRAMED GUNS BEFORE GLOCK WAS EVEN A PLAYER IN THE MARKET. REMEMBER THE P9S? YEAH, YOU KNOW, THE ORIGINAL.THE INFO ON THE SIG METAL FRAMED GUNS IS CORRECT, THEY ARE THE BEST AROUND.

The H&K's were a failure because they offered nothing new, other than a polymer frame that cheapened the manufacturing process. Glock offered a complete new concept--based on simplicity and efficiency. All the polymer guns, since the introduction of Glocks, have basically copied the Glock.

Failure????? H&K???? They may have not sold as much because the average person didn't want to pay for them!!! They always were and always will be better than the best Glock to ever come off of the line. Ditto for the Sigs. Glocks accidently discharge, I know this to be a fact because it happened in the locker room of our city police dept as well as an adjoining towns dept. The pistol was holstered and in a bag on the bench. They suceeded due to a marketing plan which was well thought out. The advertising that they could be frozen and fired, dropped from buildings and fired, blah blah blah is nothing new. They just ADVERTISED it. I have had them all, and the glocks finish third behind HK and SIG in accuracy and ergonomics. YOU GET WHAT PAY FOR!! I'm not saying that other manuf. have not had accidental discharges, but I have not heard of as many.Beattie1175, save your cash and buy a REAL Sig (p229 p226 p220 etc). Get a used one, you won't get rid of it. If you do, let me know. I'll go buy a glock and trade you for it.

I'd listen to what 110 says above. If the man works for them, he ought to know.Sig makes excellent guns; but, P9S or not, Glock owns the polymer frame market because they are the best for the money...no one comes even close.Look around when you are out in public and see a cop. Somewhere between 30% and 40% carry Glocks...for a reason.

Cops might carry glocks, secret service and FBI carry SIGs. Average police budget can't afford SIG or HK for all of their officers. If you are coming by my way, I'll arange for you to shoot all three. I will agree with the money thing. For the money, you won't go wrong. If you have to have one NOW (kinda like me), get the glock. Save for a few years and get one of the others.[This message has been edited by JustC (edited 01-17-2002).]
