There is a Savage 110 synthetic black 7mm on-sale for $299. Is it worth it? How good are Savage rifles? should i pay the extra dough and get a Remington, Winchester, or Ruger? Thanks for any help I appreciate it.Jay

jay, when I saw the price you quoted I knew you were in Flarda..I saw it in one of those stores as well.I think it is a great deal..I`d take off the Simmons scope, and put it on a .22 rimfire,or somethin, and give the 110 somethin nicer. You can do a lot with a 110,I say go for it..218[This message has been edited by 218Beekeep (edited 01-17-2002).]

I HAVE AN OLD 110E IN 270 AND WITH THE RIGHT LOADS ITS SHOOTS JUST AS GOOD AS ANY OF MY OTHER (ALOT HIGHER PRICED) RIFLES. THERE GOOD PICKUP RIFLES. ITS THE ONE THAT IS ALWAYS BEHIND THE SEAT IN MY TRUCK. I SLAP A DIFFERENT SCOPE ON IT, BUT I SAY GO FOR IT. I WOULD, IF THE OLD LADY NEVER FOUND OUT.

Although i like Remington 700's myself, because of the trigger,i have owned several 110's in different calibers. They all shot as well or better then a remington. My favorite cal. for deer is 7-08Sounds like a great deal to me.GO FOR IT!

While Savage tends to be an "economical" rifle, they have a reputation for fine accuracy. The large chains buy in such large quantity they can often sell below what smaller dealers pay. Buy the rifle, but do put a decent scope on it, and as Saxons says, put the Simmons on your old .22.

I am a BIG fan of Savage, never done me wrong when I needed a good rifle. I would how ever like to add that you may want to change the trigger, stock, and the scope(like the other folks said). The trigger is to stiff and may need to be taken to a gunsmith if you can't do the ajustment your-self. As for the stock, I feel it is to cheap, and also the scope too. I replace my Simmons with a 3-9X50 Bushnell Sportview on my 30-06. If you look in the Brownells, you will see different items for this type of rifle. But it is still a great buy.

In point of fact if you consider you are buying a barreled action and replace stock trigger and scope it is still a good deal. I paid $325 for a Howa barreled action. [This message has been edited by He Dog (edited 01-17-2002).]

Thanks fellas for your help. I was thinking about putting that scope on my .22, that's weird you said that. So where should i do my shopping for aftermarket accessories for the Savage 110?? So a new trigger is a must? I think I can deal with the stock being cheap.Jay

Jay,the sinthetic stock on that gun is ok!You may want a Timney trigger, about $80.I think it has Savage Rings,I`d leave those on it,and but on a $200.Leupold Scope...or a nice older Readfield,I buy them at shows for an average of $80.You may even get a sling,in the box..I forget.By the way,I go past Jacksonville a couple times a year, goin to my property in W.V..218

I bought a Savage 110 in .270 long years ago. I had a Smith lighten the trigger pull and put a redfield scope on it. It will shoot as good as my Remington and Winchester. I think I paid $189.95 at Wal-Mart for the gun. It holds it's POI from year to year. I've lost track of the mumber of deer it has taken. Not a wall hanger, just my "meat gun".
