Pinpoint at 100 yds.

I am about to spend a lot of money on a rifle that will give me less than 1/4" groups at 100 yds. I'm not wealthy- so I will get the basic gun and have it perfected a little at a time. After looking at all the options (and my needs)-I choose the 22-250. I'm not shooting deer or such,- just paper. Give me some input as to if I should go with .223, .222 .220, or 22-250. I'm going big barrel and best scope. PLEASE- only experienced need answere- I need no quesswork! What works best in competition? THANKS!

I prefer the 220. At 100 yards my Ruger Varmint model will shoot a five shot group 1/4 inch or better from a bench or prone with bipod. It will shoot almost as well at 200 yards. I use a Pentax Lightseeker 6 to 24x 50mm with 1/8 dot. I load all of my own ammo & am extremely particular about each round I load as you must be to get this kind of accuracy with any consistancy. You going past 100yds? if not, the 222 and 223 are extremely accurate rounds. If you want to group at 300 or so, I would go with more power like the 22-250 or 220 swift. No need to spend the extra money on the bigger 22's if you are only shooting to 100 or 150.

I have a custom 22-250 built on a mauser action that shoots very well out to 300 yds.If you want to go futher then that, you might want to consider something a little bigger, like 6mm. It will hold against the wind better.just my 2 cents

Thanks! You all have answered my question as I plan to shoot to 300 yds. I'll go 22-250.Past 300 yds I've done well with the 300 H&H mag.
