I have an Aimpoint "Mag Dot" model, that I need to replace the batteries!!No model numbers on the two batteries in it now.Only thing I have to go on is one is 3.0 volt and the other a 1.5 volt=total 4.5 volt. The Aimpoint Web sight does not answer my question and phone messages to customer service are not returned.Any help would be nice!!

The mix of batteries is wrong in your Mag Dot. It is a 5000 model with a 10" (MOA) dot. Most 1' & 30mm's take: 2 #357 silver oxides,or 1#2L76 lithium, or 1 # DL1/3N.All are 3 volts. Prefer not to use the #357's as they 'gas' and can coat/corrode the contact surfaces especially in heavy handgun shooting. DL1/3N seem to last longer in cold weather if hunting. Can be usually found at camera stores, Staples, Office Depot, even drug and grocery stores with good selections.

Guns and Glass,Thanks for the help, but something is still not adding up!I found numbers on the two batteries in the Aimpoint: 1 is: K58L, 3volt and the other is: KS76, 1.5 volt. The K58L measures appr. 7/16" and the KS76 appr. 3/16" or about 5/8" overall for the two.So, using only 2 of the 1.5's would not fill battery compartment and in turn would not complete the circuit.HELP!

I have an older model Aimpoint red dot pistol scope. When it needed batteries the first time it was a struggle. I found a small place called Battery Warehouse and the measured the old batterys and actually cut a new battery in to and soldered something to something and I've been doing it every year since.

The batteries that are in, are wrong. Batteries I listed,...when...installed..will correctly fill the space, and make good contact,...if nothing else is wrong.

Hope this clears things up. Sorry, wrote the posts in haste, and not as clear as if I were asking the question. The system voltage is 3.0. The two #357's (1.5vDC)when installed will have the positive(+) touching the negative(-). That puts them is series, which makes it 3v. It will also "fill" the space. The other batteries are basically 'two in one', and do the same thing, in one package.

Guns & Glass,I sure appreciate the help, BUT-I bought a DL1/3N (which I measured @appr.7/16" or the same as 2 # 357's stacked together). When I install the DL1/3N, it just slides back and forth in the battery compartment and thus, doesn't make contact on both + & - terminals. The battery compartment measures 5/8" deep or there again, the height of 3-#357's or 1 DL1/3N + 1#357.Back "full circle" to where I started. It seems like I'm beating an old horse to death, but I don't want to put the total of 4.5 volts in the scope, if only designed for 3 volts. Thanks a Million (2 million-to factor inflation)!!

Time to put on the Sherlock Holmes hat, and break out the pipe. Bought Aimpoints direct over 11 years ago, and now stumped.Rereading your first post you list the Aimpoint as "Mag Dot", which was/is a model 5000 with a 10MOA dot.Can you positively identify the model by #'s, or model name on it? Is it 1", or 30mm (5000's are)? How long is the battery cap end to end? Don't worry about beating a dead horse,...he won't feel it, and truthfully I like these kind of 'doesn't make sense problems'. PS: 4.5 v won't hurt the system, just make the dot brighter for bright light shooting/hunting. But that usually would cause a flare creating more problems then it was worth

Guns and Glass,I sure appreciate your tenacity in this problem.Aimpoint 1X sight, nearly identical to the model 5000, Aimpoint shows on their webpage except: Right side reads: A i m p o i n t ----mag dot---- (upsidedown ser#) It is: 30mmOverall length of sight 5 13/16", w/polarization filter 6 5/16"Overall height of battery cap is 1/2", with battery recess measuring 1/8" (nearly identical to thread depth of cap)So, with your pipe in mouth and magnifying glass in hand--have at it Sherlock!AND, Good LuckSteve[This message has been edited by Spring Creek (edited 01-20-2002).]
