Just spent 1/2 the morning reading up on the CETME. Never looked at one closley or fired one. Why is it that this rifle does not have the popularity of the AK or SKS, same time area? It appears to be of better quality production than that of the AK. Thanks

It maybe the cost of ammo, as the .308 usually is more expensive than the 7.62x39.It might also be due to the bad reports on some of the Cetme boards. By and large, with some heavy cleaning and some tinkering, the Cetmes are good, accurate and cheap compared to the asking price of similar guns.

Cetmes were not readily available until recently. Price and TV media will always give the Nod to the AK. In real life a Cetme owner will always go to a AK owners funeral in a straight gunfight.

As regards caliber and the overall type of firearm, the FAL or HK 91 would be a closer comparable. (technically speaking, you COULD call the HK 91 a CETME clone as it was the design purchased from CETME and only slightly changed to produce the later HK)
