Cowboy Action Shooters, Need Hardware Help

I was wondering what the weapons of choice are. For instance I have heard that the Winchester 94 in 357 or 44 jams a lot (action was built for longer cartridges) so that the Rossi (win 92 clone) was better. Also there are several imported single action pistols that I know nothing about as far as quality, accuracy or longevity. Could you shed some light on what the best guns are? I was looking more at entry level guns but would be intrested in the top of the line stuff as well.

I have one of the rossi's (older version) and its a 45 LC , been a damn sweet little carbine. Its stainless with large ring lever. Its the model that got rossi sued by winchester I've almost sold it a cpl times but glad I didn't

Steve,Don't forget about the Marlins. They are a favorite of SASS shooters in .38/.357, .44 spcl/.44 mag., and .45 Colt. I've had Winchesters, Rossis, and Marlins all in pistol calibers. The Marlins are the best by far. Actions are smoother and the triggers are better. As far as handguns, Rugers are probably the most popular amoung the non-Colt users, but the Italian clones are also a very good choice. I like the Vacaros because they are easier to tune, but do have that stupid problem with the cylinder hand not allowing you to back up (correctable with a kit). I would also be very happy with the Uberti or other clone SAA.Shotguns: there are some really nice new rabbit-eared guns available now, but I find an old Stevens 311 cut down to 20" is perfect.

Cabelas has a single action that seems reasonably priced also.
