H & K USC vs. Bushmaster Shorty...

I'm going through the motions of a purchase binge. I'm looking for a great, lightweight, short-range tactical rifle. I typically don't shoot distance of over 100 yards, but I do enjoy tactical drills which require manuvering and movement to hit short range targets. I've worked with a friends pre-ban and loaded Bushmaster and did enjoy it... but I've yet to work with the HK model. Has anyone got anything to say about them?christianps. Anyone own a Feather RAV? What are they like?

Christian B.Your ar looking at two entirely different rounds designed for different uses! Both are great for their intended purpose. The things I like about the USC is that it is a natural pointer and when compared to the .223, its quiet, you don't even need earplugs. I havent shot mine out to 100 yds but at 50 it will ring an 6" gong 10 out of 10 using a red dot with 4" moa. I'm guessing that the .45 will start to degrade pretty quickly past 50 yds, but as stated I haven't tried it yet ... its designed for close in.Currently there isn't any Hi-caps for the USC, however Special Weapons has a design in the works for one I understand.Special Weapons currently has on the market a replacement magwell for the SL8 which will allow it to accept Pre-Ban AR-15/M-16 mags, a color change process that will transform the light gray stock to black, and in late February will release a G-36 style pistolgrip stock, this will be possiable by reducing the number of imported parts and replaceing themwith US made parts. When the "Up-Fitting" is done and in full swing for the SL8, then simular plans are in store for the USC

From what I understand, there may not be a USC stock conversion from Special Weapons. I was brousing the HK board a while back and I found this post by the adminstrator, Todd, who I believe is one of the guys at Special Weapons LLC._______________________________We have decided to not do this conversion, based on a number of factors: 1) Market: there are only about 1400 usc's sold to date and if you are going to get at best 20% to do the conversion you have a market now of 280 guns. In order to do the models and other parts the break even is at 250 kits so this project would take a year to even break even and after that it is not sure you even have a market. 2) The gun itself is not that great, it is a plastic uzi, and hard to justify spending $1100 on the gun and $500 on a kit, for $1600 you can have a great preban uzi. Some say the market will increase once the kit is introduced I say for $500 not a chance... We feel the sl8 market is a much better product and could take off and become as good as the ar15 market if Hk were to lower the price to where it needs to be about $850.[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 01-21-2002).]
