Is their such an animal, A friend of mine has a chance to buy one of these in .38 spl. with 4 inch barrel from a security guard. the number 60 is in the cylinder crane, and that is the only clue as to the model. I have looked in all my books and can't find this one anywhere, it appears to be manufactured around 1981 according to the guard, he wants $60 for it...thanks in advance

Could the 6 possibly be an 8? They made a model 80 about that time period. It looked a great deal like a S&W Mod. 10 or M&P with a 3" or 4" tapered barrel. This is the time period when their quality was beginning to improve; although it was not up to that of the revolvers they produce today. For that price I don't see how you could go wrong, assuming that it's in good condition.

I was able to look at the gun myself at work today,(yes, at work, they are gun friendly.)and the 6 was indeed an 8, my friend doesn't have the best eyesight. Thanks for the reply, the blue book puts the value at $105 for 90%, and he paid $60 so everyone is happy....
