Old Winchestor Lever action....1800's

my girlfriend's grandfather died about a year ago and this past weekend we began helping her grandmother "thin" out the stuff in the house because she will be moving to a small apartment, there was a lot of furniture moving involved, eventually we came to my favorite spot in the house, his gun cabinit. He had a lot of old guns, all mosbergs, except one. I was only able to see one side of the rifle so the details i have are limited. We think it might be worth something. here's what i know....-im almost positive its a Winchestor,-1873 or 1878 is the year stamped on it,-the caliber is 25-20,-it has the TOP ejection reciever,-octagon barrell.-condition, lots of nicks on the stock, and i would say maybe 60-70% of blueing, im not sure how to describe the finish though, it just looks like an old west rifle all over it, little pitting. -wasn't able to work the action or look down the bore.-I was only able to see the left side of the rifle as it was behind glass.any ideas??? i realize this is very little info to go on but i was just curious what a ballpark figure would be.thanks...
