Glad the site is back up and running. I would like some opinions on the pros and cons of the Kimber Pro Carry vs. the Colt Combat Commander. (or Springfield). Of course, in .45. Thanks Ed

You can't go wrong with either. Strictly a toss-up. I would make the Springfield a last choice of the three mentioned. My personal choice is the Colt (current production).

Make mine the Colt Combat Commander XS. Have two of them, both great and wouldn't part with either!
Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!

In my opinion I consider the Kimber better than the Colt because over the years I have owned many Colt 1911's and without fail each needed the attention of a gunsmith.Either they were not reliable, not accurate or cut my hands. When Kimber first came out with their cnc machined guns I gave them a try . I have not been sorry.I now have 3 of them and all are reasonably accurate, totally reliable with every type of bullet shot thru them and no cut hands. This is out of the box. Here where I shoot one sees a lot of Kimbers and very few Colts. In my experience you are unable to contact a gunsmith at Colt for help but one easily reaches one at Kimber. The new CEO at Colt promises that will change, however. For around $1000 you can get a Wilson compact KZ45. This polymer framed 1911 has a 4.1 in. barrel and two 9 round mags with night sights. This 1911 is top shelf. While you could not go wrong with any of these 3 guns you will receive pros and cons on each. This is my opinion and my experences only. Good luck in your selection.

Thanks Gentlemen. It's a hard decision to make. I am, and have been sort of leaning toward the Kimber. Liked it the first time I put grip to palm. Of course I liked the commander too. I guess I'll go see my friendly dealer and see what he has on hand and go from there. Thanks again.

The Kimbers are very nice guns but I would take the Commander. Why? Because I have owned one and carried one for 8yrs. Mine is electroless nickel and has fixed sights. Nothing fancy, original out of the box.(except for the finish) No jams of any kind to speak of. Very accurate. I can't see you getting screwed if you pick the Kimber though.

I have owned Colt automatic pistols over 20 years and have never been unhappy with them! Very reliable and accurite out of box. Currently own a commander and would'nt sell it for anything. I have handled a Kimber but never fired one. They look nice but? Colt is a PROVEN WINNER!!!! My opinion.

Well, I did it today. I had a discussion with my local gun shop owner (and friend). I opted for the Kimber Stainless Pro Carry with night sights. It was a hard decision but I kept going back to the Kimber. Now for the range!!! I apprecaiate everyone's input. Thanks. Ed
