.40 VS .45

I have been looking for awhile now for my first handgun. I am familiar with the Beretta 9mm and have also shot the H&K .45. At first I was determined that I would purchase a .45, but after talking to several people and reading several reviews I am considering a .40. I am purchasing the gun not only for home/self defense, but also for range shooting. I am looking for something concealable since I will be carrying it when I travel after I get my concealed carrying permit through the state of GA. I know you have all heard this type of question a million times before, but I would greatly value any opinions or experience that is offered. Thanks in advance.

40 S&W 155grHP is a good, all around caliber. As hard-hitting as 45. But I think you'd really like 357sig. For ease of operation it should be a model you are comfortable with in one of the mid-compact not pocket and probably DA . If you want a shoot and forget pistol at reasonable prices get a Glock in 357Sig as the G22 & G23 in 40 have some unresolved problems. My sister-in-law likes the Glock mid compact[No.??] 45. Not everyone likes the feel or trigger. Takes a little more getting used to, which is good! H&K, of course. Para Ordnance LDA in 40 comes in 3 models that wil carry From 16-13rds for about the same price. You'll have to go to a gun shop and fit them for comfort and pointability. Beretta is also a good pistol.[This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 01-17-2002).][This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 01-17-2002).][This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 01-17-2002).]

You will not go wrong with ither the .40 or the .45. Both will do very well for what you want and need. Choose the gun that fits your hand the best. The .40 has the ability with a barrel switch to shoot the 357 sig. The .45 is used in most match shooting. 6 one way half dozen the other. My 2 cents

If size is a consideration, the frame size for the .45 is larger than that of the 9mm/40S&W/357Sig because the cartridge overall length of the 45 is longer.

Buy a Glock 23 and get a good aftermarket .357 SIG barrel for it from a place like www.lonewolfdist.com Two calibers--one gun.

I SUGGEST A SIG P220 IN 45ACP. MY BUDDY HAS A GLOCK 23 IN .40 BUT PREFERS THE P220 EVERYTIME WE GO TO THE RANGE. THE SIG COSTS A LITTLE MORE, BUT WORTH IT. FELT RECOIL SEEMS MORE WITH HIS 40. BOTH CALIBERS ARE GREAT, SO GO WITH THE ONE THAT FITS IN YOUR HANDS. AMMO COST ABOUT THE SAME FOR BOTH IF YOU LOOK. GD

Get a Glock 27 or 26... The 27 is a .40 and the 26 is a 9mm. My opinion its not calibe that matters it is where you hit them.. Any larger cal .357 , 9 , 40 , 45 will do the jobMy personal carry is a 27
