L.C. Smith Priemier Skeet Barrel

I boughta 12 GA double barrel with a buyout of an old gunsmith's parts. A tag attached to the gun says it is a "L.C. Smith Premier Skeet Barrel". The barrel is indeed marked "Premier Skeet 12 GA" by the lug. It has a proof that looks like a square. Within the square it looks like the letters "MP" superimposed over one another, with a smaller "AG" at the bottom of the square. Tried it on a Smith receiver I have but it did not fit. A good 3/4 of an inch gap between the barrel and the receiver.Barrel is in beautiful shape! What have I got?

Try it on a FW receiver.

This is truly a guess, but---if you have that much gap between barrel and receiver, you may be trying to fit a featherweight barrel on a standard receiver. The barrel lug is smaller on the featherweight. More likely, according to Brophy's book, this is a left-over Marlin barrel from the 1949-1950 production, and may not fit a Hunter Arms frame.
