Glock 22 Kb!

I know I saw a thread with info on this subject but could not find. Can anyone give me a risk assesment I have on this? I have a Glock22, police buyback. It's in great shape mechanically, and aside from sights, is all original parts. I DO fire factory reloads, but jacketed only. I keep in in excellent working order and clean after each session. Should I be seriously concerned with this? If so, should I get an aftermarket barrel and where can I get one for inexpensive?

I can't give you info for a "risk assessment". However, www.lonewolfdist.com and www.topglock.com have some great after-market accessories and upgrades to include quality barrels. I just bought a Glock 23 and will be purchasing an after-market .357 SIG barrel for it.

I have read mocst of the issues concerning Glock and KB's. The original issues was with Federal ammunition. Federal settled and issued a statement that a certain lot number of there ammo was to blame. Glock has stated that the original barrel and reloads could cause a problem. Then again bad relaods can cause any one a problem. This KG has occured with other mfg. Glock is one of the few that keeps track of the issue. If it was an issue all of the major leo's in the counrty would be up in arms and they are not. My 2 cents

Ahh... Good point GAP, thanks for the info. I thought about that myself but then my local Departments switched to HK USP's. Anyone else?

Most LEO's that I've encountered out here in Iowa carry Glock 22's. If it was a major problem, I believe that the police departments that issue Glock 22's would have switched long ago due to liability issues. 65% of police officers are carrying Glocks right now. In light of all this controversy, I still bought my Glock 23 and will fire it without apprehension.

You can bet that ALL firearms manufacturers keep close track of their product failures, upon advice of their legal departments. Glock is known for immediately getting their hands on any of their pistols that fail by offering to replace it free of charge. It should be noted that Glock follows the policy of offering "free upgrades" for their existing pistols, rather than referring to these as product recalls. Take a look at how many of these freebie upgrades have been announced since they've entered the market. This isn't being done out of the goodness of their hearts, these guys just have an excellent PR machine. The controversy over whether the problem is with Federal American Eagle ammo or the pistols is still ongoing. Don't forget that these failures have been documented with other types of factory ammo also, not just Federal. There just seems to have been more with this type of ammo lately than others. Also, to my knowledge there haven't been a rash of pistol failures with American Eagle ammo when using non-Glock firearms.Where did you obtain the figure that 65% of police officers carry Glock pistols?

Im a firearm instructor for OKC. Police Dept.and have never seen a Glock K-boom or a bulged case from any of our Glocks since we went to them back in 90-91. I think its just poor ammo.

What are the previously-mentioned "free" upgrades? I have not heard any of these offered by Glock and am interested in keeping my Glock 23 shooting experience a safe one.As far as the 65% number goes, that comes directly from Glock's website. It may be a biased source but I don't think it's that far off.

I have been a police firearms instructor and armorer for 17 years. Included in this time I served as an adjunct instructor for a regional police training academy, taking in trainees from throughout a 31 county region of Tx. This experience gave me exposure to many different types of firearms issued by different agencies or purchased by their individual officers. Any firearms instructor who tells you he has never seen a blown Glock has limited experience with their various types when using different sorts of ammunition. These kabooms aren't an everyday occurrence, but they do happen-and much more frequently than with other brands. The problem is, to my knowledge there is no single source that keeps track of different manufacturers pistol failures. The only sources for these numbers would be the individual companies-and don't hold your breath expecting them to respond with this information.I don't understand how Glock could estimate what percentage of US police officers carry their pistols, other than taking a sampling of a limited number of agencies. I've never had anyone contact me or other instructor association members asking what type pistols our officers carry, nor do I know of any other departments who have ever been surveyed. As I stated earlier, Glock has an outstanding PR system going. Have any other law enforcement instructors on this board ever been surveyed in this way?The "product upgrade" information I referred to can be obtained from Glock. Supply them with your type/serial and, depending on the age of your pistol, you might receive a handful of parts for free. The link given by tideman contains some of this info.Don't think I'm some sort of rabid Glock hater, I'm just stating what I have observed. It's a good pistol, but definitely not without flaws.[This message has been edited by Txs (edited 01-23-2002).]
