ID on an old 12 ga shotgun

I have just aquired an old single shot, hammered, 30 inch barrel (steel, not damascus) 12 ga shotgun. The only markings are: "Nitro Marvel" on the left side of the receiver & "Patented Aug 11 1896" on the left side near the the barrel lug. Anyone have an idea which company made this old shotgun? It kind of looks like the old Cresent brand shotguns. Thanx in advance.

    I kind'a think you're right, though there are several other brands possible. These pieces carry almost no collector interest and there is almost no information available because of this.Crescent probably put out more of this type of gun than anyone else. They were known to stamp products with trade names and Marvel is known to be one of them.
