hi-i have a m-1 ibm carbine, it is a 3000000 series, making it ww2 issue. it has a greyed grooved barrel, and is in very great fireable condition. it has the "flip" sights on the reciever, and there almost no wear at all in action, or wear in clip area. this was a item from my grandfather, and was thinking of selling it, any clues as to a fair price? i had a dealer offer me 200.00 for it
what do you guys think? i also have the zip clips (7) along with the bandoleer, and about 80 rounds of .30 ammo. the rifle is missing the oiler and sling. thanks in advance!

We need a lot more detail in order to determine exactly what you have, but that would be difficult to do on this forum. I suggest that you post your question on the collector forums at www.gunandknife.com or www.jouster.com. Arsenal rebuilt carbines are selling for $400-500, and original finish carbines (which I suspect that you have) are selling for $200-400 more. So, no, I don't think that the dealers offer was fair.Neal

neal, thank you very much! if i could post pics here, i would, i had looked on the internet on a m-1 site, 9i cant remember the exact name) and i used this site to run the #s to determine its age. my grandfather was a gun collector, and even though he didnt serve, this came from his collection. the rear sight i am referring to, has a small ridge hole, and then you flip it,fwd, and there is a larger ridged hole. the difference in the two, is one has a higher sight. the sight @ barrel tip has SI 8 stamped on it, and under that, on the grey barrel, has the IBM CORP stamp, next, there is a stamp that reads US CARBINE .30M1, behind the sight reads IBM.CORP, with the # 3
on the safety button, it reads EPB on the arera where the magazine goes, it reads PRB .....thats all i can see for now, oh yes, on the stock it has a stamp that looks like a circle, with something crossed, is this a springfield stock? paul

We need more of the serial number, but all the markings you described are consistent with original IBM manufacture. Springfield Armory did not make carbines, just replacement parts; you should have a manufacturers code such as BR-B, JL-B, LW-8, or SC-8 stamped in the sling well. The round crossed thing is the Ordinance Dept stamp.Neal
