Your question is unclear.Do you mean Springfield Armory (the US government arsenal), or Springfield Armory Incorporated (the commercial company in Geneseo, IL)?Do you mean M1 (Garand), or M1A (M14 clone)?Neal

Quality of materials & workmanship is consistent throughout the SA Inc lineup; as you move up the line, you are paying for upgrades that will let you shoot a group that is just a little bit tighter. Unlike Chinese M14 clones, SA Inc parts are made close to USGI specs, so any part or assembly can be easily replaced, if needed.Early SA Inc rifles used surplus USGI parts, while current rifles have mostly SA Inc parts. These are cast, not forged, and are not as durable as USGI; however, SA Inc has a lifetime warranty & will repair any failure. My preference is an older rifle with USGI parts, but current manufacture SA Inc rifles are still worth owning. The service grade is probably the best buy if all you want is to "have" an M14 clone; these should be easiest to sell, too. If you are a competitive shooter, then it is worth moving up the line to a model consistent with your shooting ability.Neal
