    Merry Christmas, Wishes of Peace to us All...

    A couple of questions;

    1) Did Ruger ever make a tang safety version of the 77/44 or 77/22?

    2) Did they ever make a m77 rifle in a .357?

    Thanks for any and all help,
    Sincerely,
    Dave

    What is so bad about a Ruger rifle. It seems like the more people I talk to about ruger rifles, the more they don't like them. I've owned many Ruger rifles and I have never had a problem with them in any way. Would someone let me in on why they are disliked.BT

    I couldn't tell you. I have a few Rugers and love em all. The only negative things I have heard were minor. Things like the 10/22 was not accurate right out of the box, and feed problems for the Mini-30. Never had a problem like that myself, but that's all I heard.

    I love mine too, no problems with anything, except for not having enough of them. I say the same for my revolvers, I have 3 handguns and 2 rifles by Ruger, not a complaint.OOPS!, forgot one, 4 handguns, and I made a mistake once and sold a 10/22, had to buy another.

    I love my old model R77 in .243, great little rifle. At one time I had 12 ruger rifles, and 6 of their handguns. Never a problem. The only thing I have seen on their new lines I don't care for is the synthetic stock they use. It is a preference issue, but I don't care for the hollowed out style of butt stock area and the way it feels. Another issue is the intended use for the rifle. In my experience, the ruger was alway adequate for hunting, but as my interest has shifted to long range target, I feel the remington sendero offers a better value in terms of "off the shelf" features offered. What it really boils down to, is shoot what you like, and let others enjoy their opinions.

    'Roger' to all the above. I have 7 Ruger rifles, and my experience with each has been very satisfying. As for the allegation that the Mini-30 does not feed well, I have had absolutely no problems with the factory magazines (5 round). It is true that the after-market hi-cap mags for the Mini-30 are tempermental (and Ruger never made hi-caps for that rifle), but that is not a fault of the firearm.

    Ruger's are our best selling line here in our shop and I ccan not think of one complaint we've ever had. IMO there line for the price is unbeatable. Customer service is top of the line also, we had a customer break a trigger guard on his M77 .3006 during the first day of NY hunting season, we called Ruger for the part and had it here the NEXT day. No charge. Couldnt get any better than that !

    I believe most of the problems would revolve around the poor accuracy of the mini-14s &mini-30s. There is also the problem of lack of factory support for the 180 series mini-14.

    I'm one of those guys who doesn't like Ruger rifles. I've never owned a mini-14 or mini-30 or the like, but have had plenty of experience with Ruger hunting configurations. For me, it revolves around the action being sloppier than the alternatives. It's not that I despise Ruger rifles, but I prefer all the other major brands to the Ruger because of the action alone. They seem to group well enough for hunting, but I've never had much success with paper punching.I agree that the synthetic stocks with the cut-outs are terrible. The wood stocks aren't of the highest quality, either. As far as value for the money goes, I'm going to have to disagree with some of the previous posts and say it would have to be a darned good deal for me to pick one up. The only Ruger rifle I own currently is a wood/blue MkII .223 w/ Leupold Vari-XIII 3.5x10x40. I picked up the entire package for $450 (all was 99%+). That was a good deal because the scope is worth that much by itself.Again, just my opinion.

    Oh yeah, I like my synthetic stock with the cut outs, at first it looked strange, but its kind of like the new model cars, it grows on you. I've added Lett Grips' cutom grip panels to it, and it really looks nice with those. I'v got to admit the recoil pad that came with it was junk, I've also taken care of that problem. I have complete faith in the stock though, its capable of taking a beating. The gun with everything I've done to it is my most valuable, with Leupold scope, Cryocon treatment to the barrel, Magnaporting the barrel, so its kind of odd, but this is the only gun I will lend to anyone to use, because I dont have to worry about the gun coming back with a banged up stock, wierd huh?

    Well the Ruger line has discontinued the cut out stocks now. Although there are still some of the cutouts still available from before. The new ones are similar to the other co.s now.

    If he couldnt get better than a 2 inch group at 100 yards then it sounds like a shooter problem. I just bought a ruger 22-250. When I went to sight it in I had a 3/4 inch pattern at 200 yards with factory shells. Cant wait to see how it does with my reloads. You can bet it will be good.
