Mossberg 500/ slugs?

I have a Mossberg 500, it has the factory standard barrel.
I have heard different opinions on whether or not it's ok
to shoot slugs in this gun. Do I NEED a slug barrel?

You dont need a slug barrel as long as you area shooting them through a barrel that is choked improved cylinder or more open than that.

Accuracy will not be the best, but it will get the job done.

No slug barrel? No problem, use rifled slugs.

I have read several times that ANY choke could be used, even full, for rifled slugs.I have shot 'em through full choked guns in the past.
    Any more ideas on this??

What if it's not choked at all? I have a Mossy 500 Persuader. It's not choked at all to my knowledge. Would it be OK to use slugs in this too?

Yes, no choke is a cylinder bore and is ok for slugs, Brenneke rifled slugs are designed for use in smooth bore barrels. The 1 1/4 oz. are devestating and accurate. Good luck..

Yes, you can shoot slugs until the cows come home in any barrel. They just work a bit better in a more open choked barrel. A full choke will squeeze the slug a tick as it goes by. That's not necessarily good for accuracy, but it won't hurt the barrel.

Thanks guys, a little possitive feedback never hurts when you're not completely sure. I'm use to blowing stuff away with just the ol'Buck.

I killed my first CaribouAND my first moose with a Winchester Model 37 .410 guage shotgun with a full choke and punkin' balls. That gun dissapeared out of my truck somewhere along the way. I sure would like to have it today. Teach my grandkids how to shoot.
