what is a NFA item?

The link lead to nothing more than a mortgage site for refinancing and other services. I consider that to be SPAM.

National Firearms Act...and there were at least two of them...1934, and 1968, if I am not mistaken.

kellybrooks; in addition to tsr1965's two dates also the NFA 1986. For lots of information on NFA items read the sticky above; basic NFA FAQ. That will give you a good start.

A NFA item is an item (firearm related) that requires an individual request to the Federal Government for approval to purchase. The government levies a $200 tax for the issuance of the approved paperwork. An item classified as a NFA 'Any Other Weapon' (cane guns fall into this category) require the same paperwork, but the levy is only $5.

Machineguns, sawed-off shotguns (SBS), short barrelled rifles (SBR), destructive devices (explosives in the form of ordnance) and any other weapons (AOW) are the five categories of NFA items. Best, Joe
