FN 49"s were made in a number of different variations and calibers. Until you know which specific one is offered, no way we can help you. Unless it's a really rare variation in factory original condition, $1000 seems like some BS artists fantasy to me. Things are in the toilet big-time as far as the economy and jobs are concerned now. $1000 FN-49's aren't going to be fast sellers, IMHO.

There were quite a few different military contracts for the FN49, even though it's service life was short. 30-06 could be Luxembourg...that's not a commonly encountered contract. Several SA countries adopted it, but those were mostly 7MM x 57 or 308 nato later in production. What is the crest on the reciever ring?

There is also some Colombian 30-06's around, ran into one awhile back.

If the crest/marking on the receiver is "ABL", it probably is worth a grand.

I like the design. All the ones I looked a long time ago were in 8mm with dark bores. New barrels were available at a good price but about half of the actions broke tring to remove the worn barrels so I lost interest in them.
