Modified 1892 Value?

Started reading the forum and realized I should have started sooner!

Bought this gun on GB close to a year ago, shot it a few times, it was fun, but now don't know what to do with it. Looking to see what it is worth. It is a Winchester 1892 (Serial Number 73936* - no idea when it was made based on what I have read here), Lyman tang sight - No rear sight or blank, the problem is the barrel and caliber. The barrel is from a model 65 Winchester in 218 Bee. Gun is in 'good' original condition other than the barrel, but am concerned with the slide as it has more blue than the rest of the gun. Any opinions would be appreciated (model of the sight, should I sell sight separately, etc.) The gun shoots fine and feeds from the magazine.

I think w/ the replacement barrel any collector value is gone. As a shooter, who knows...

I agree with the previous poster, what difference does it make. From the finish mismatch it appears a bunch of the parts were replaced besides the barrel and bolt. Because of this it has no collector value and would be just classed as a shooter.

Things are rough now for a lot of folks economy wise. I would hold on to it for awhile. From my personal experience shooter grade guns don't sell to readily unless their cheap.

Thanks for the responses, I know it's not a collector with the modifications made. I don't even know what caliber it was originally.

What would be a value for a 'shooter'? Am I better off parting out the stock set and barrel, them making it into something else fun (32-20 comes to mind). Only live about 45 minutes from Doug Turnbull's shop. (Edit - saw turnbull's prices, even though it is beautiful work, not something I'll do anytime soon, and the bolt would have to be changed to handle the 32, so that is out as well.)

    Opinions/suggestions appreciated.

Your Model 1892 was serialized in late November 1913.

As has been pointed out, it does not have a lot of value, and there is no way to put an accurate price tag on a non-factory original Winchester. Only you and the potential buyer can decide what it is worth.

I say you will get the most return on money you spent if you Part it out down to every piece. then use this money to buy an original rifle.

The bolt probably was changed to the smaller diameter firing pin style for the higher pressure 218 Bee, a plus for a shooter.
A 32-20 or 38 Spl barrel should go right on and give you a nice shooting Model 92 Rifle if you don't like the Bee.
I would think the outfit is desirable as it is.
A high quality blue job would enhance it.
A Cowboy Action shooter would love it in 38 Special.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure what to do, will likely post it on GB to see if anyone would want it as is. Thanks.

That seems your best bet...figure out what YOU want, start the auction at that price (or start low and use a reserve), and if you dont get what you want out of it, then you can decide whether to part it out or not. Does it shoot well? 218 Bee is a dandy round.

Thanks for the advise guys. It shot right through the reserve and actually went over the buy it now. Gun is paid for and delivered and both of us are happy.

    Thanks.
