I recently purchased a JC Higgins Model 20 12 gauge SG 583 200. I can't find the "583.200" on any of the listings provided in earlier posts about the possible DOM. I don't believe I will find anything specific, but a general date of manufacture would be nice.

Many of Sears long guns were made by High Standard. Go to John Stimsons High Standard site on the net, ( do a GOOGLE search using John Stimson and High Standard as the search terms). If you gun was actually made by High Standard more then likely he will be able to give you pertinent information on it. He is a expert on High Standard Firearms and has in his possession many of their production records.
