Ruger mk2 dry firing

I have a volquartsen terminator (ruger mk2)pistol. Does anyone know if it's safe to dry fire it? My groupings for my kimber .45 have improved dramatically through dry fire practice(I use snap caps).I would like to do the same with my mk2 but can't find snap caps. And even if I did find snap caps, it would eject each time I pulled the slide back as opposed to my 1911 where you can just cock the hammer while leaving the snap cap in. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks Rayzor25

volquarwhatsit??? Never heard a Ruger called that?????? I assume it's a .22 LR? I know that it is safe to dry fire a new model single-six, and it is safe to dry fire a 10/22. Ruger will send you an owner's manual free if you write them, and I'm sure that it will address that subject.

Don't dry fire any rimfire gun. You will peen the barrel and eventually ruin a good gun.Buy .22 LR snap caps. They are cheap - much less expensive than a new barrel. You can buy the plastic kind, use them a few times each and toss them (they get worn quickly). I buy them by the bag from places like Midway, Dillon, etc.

Most rimfires do NOT peen the chamber area if fired without snap caps. Most are designed with a stop mechanism that stops the firing pin before it hits the chamber area. If that were not the case, every time a pistol or rifle was shot to empty and the firing pin fell on an empty chamber, damage would result. It does not. Some early, inexpensive designs will be damaged, but a Ruger pistol is not in that category. Most major designs are protected in a similar fashion.Over the last weekend, I shot my 80-year+ old Colt pre-Woodsman, and even it is designed so that the firing pin does not hit the chamber area when fired on an empty chamber.

OK, now you have me interested, since my local gun shop has a Mk II at a nice price. I have a couple of friends who own them, so have fired stock items. What is this kit, how much does it cost, and is it easy to install?
